L4GA Birth-5 Grant Family Training
Gilmer County Schools will be hosting a wonderful family training event created by Scholastic to teach families how to develop their preschool/pre-k children's literacy skills. We are planning 2 sessions!
WHO IS IT FOR?
  • Pre-K/preschool age children and their parents/families.
WHEN?
  • February 26- Literacy Happens at Home
  •  March 26- Literacy Happens in the Living Room 
WHERE?
  • The trainings will be held at EPS from 5:00-6:30. 
  • We will begin in the lunchroom for a short session with parents. Children will be taken to a different place for the parent training video (20 minutes) and instructions. 
  • After that, we will move to the Pre-K classrooms in the annex and the children will join their parents for the remainder of the training.
WHAT WILL THEY DO? 
  •  Families will rotate between 6 "make & take" centers: concepts of print, writing, phonological awareness, letter-sound knowledge, comprehension, and oral language. 
WHO WILL LEAD IT?
  • Lottie Mitchell & Katrina Kingsley will facilitate the Parent Introduction and Video
  • Pre-K Teachers will facilitate the 6 centers.
WHAT WILL THEY GET?:
  • Each child will take home a book that corresponds to a center.
  • Activities from all 6 make & take centers will be taken home.
  • Parent books will be raffled off!
